A long-established American house founded in 1912, working across flavours, fragrances, botanical extracts and essential oils.
Bell Flavors & Fragrances was founded in 1912 in Chicago as the William M. Bell Company, and is headquartered today in Northbrook, Illinois. It has been owned by the Heinz family since 1968 — a privately held house rather than a listed group.
Bell works across four lines: flavours, fragrances, botanical extracts (branded Belltanicals®), and essential oils and aroma chemicals — a broad source if you need several material types from one supplier.
A notable part of its history: Bell owns the Schimmel Library in Leipzig, Germany — the historic library of Schimmel & Co., founded in 1829, holding roughly 30,000 volumes on essential oils and plant extracts. Its European hub is at Leipzig-Miltitz.
The company runs more than 11 plants and sales offices across four continents, is SQF certified and participates in the FEMA GRAS programme.
